Take action in the control of Invasive Alien Plants
Knysna residents are confronted by aggressive invasive alien plant regrowth following the June 2017 fires. Given the extent, size and density of some of the areas that are now covered by invasive alien regrowth, the application of herbicide is advisable. The window of opportunity to make use of herbicide application is closing fast, as the plants are fast growing and will soon be too large and tall to apply foliar spray. Once the trees grow beyond a certain height or size, the type of herbicide application changes.
Please assist us in reducing the threat of invasive alien plants in our area. The major invasive alien plant species threats currently are:
- Black wattle (Acacia mearnsii)
- Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon)
- Port Jackson Willow (Acacia saligna)
- Rooikrans (Acacia cyclops)
- Bugweed (Solanum mauritianum)
- Pine SA (Pine – pinus spp.) Pinus pinaster
