City Nature Challenge: 29 April – 9 May 2022

The Garden Route is proudly participating in the City Nature Challenge for the 3rd time. It will run from 29 April to 2 May 2022 for the observation period, and the upload and identification period ending 09 May 2022.

This year 14 cities in South Africa will be taking part in the international City Nature Challenge (CNC) event. All amateurs and professionals alike are invited to participate over the 4-day event from 29 April 2022 to 02 May 2022. The CNC is a biodiversity recording event hosted primarily through iNaturalist. Download the iNaturalist App or use your PC and join others in putting South Africa on the biodiversity map.

During the 4-day period people are encouraged to get out and make observations within the project areas. Then a grace period until 09 May 2022 to do uploads and identifications. The iNaturalist can be accessed via the web platform, or cell phone app downloadable from Google Play Store. A major plus point is the artificial intelligence (AI) built into the system that helps you to identify your observation.
